LOCATION

HILT 2019 will take place on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in Indianapolis, IN.

Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) is the premier urban campus of Indiana University and Purdue University in Indianapolis, Indiana. IUPUI offers more than 225 degrees in 21 different schools and has the largest number of underrepresented minorities in the Indiana University system and the largest population of graduate and professional students of any university in Indiana. The campus is located less than 3/4 of a mile from the center of downtown Indianapolis, just two blocks from the Indiana State Capitol and adjacent to White River State Park (home of the Indiana State Museum and Indianapolis Zoo).

TRANSPORTATION

The Institute will take place on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) adjacent to downtown Indianapolis. With a compact campus and easy biking pathways, we encourage you to consider using the Indiana Pacers Bikeshare, which has stations across the city including one at our campus center. You can also easily rent a Zipcar or use a Bird or Lime scooter to get to locations around town. During day, you should anticipate a 10 minute walk between our various locations. There is no local campus shuttle.

IUPUI is located on the west side of downtown Indianapolis, Indiana next to the Indianapolis Zoo and White River State Park.

Public Transit

IndyGo’s local service Route 8 offers public transportation between downtown Indianapolis and the Indianapolis International Airport. Airport customers can board Indianapolis Public Transportation at the Airport’s Ground Transportation Center, Zone 6. Approximate travel time between downtown and the Airport is 45 minutes with a cost of $1.75 (exact fare needed). Route 8 service on the weekdays is every 15 minutes Monday through Friday 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. It is every 30 minutes from 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. and drops to 70 minutes until midnight on weekends.

Driving Directions

From the Northwest (Chicago, IL)
Take I-65 South to Exit #114, which is West Street/Martin Luther King Blvd (SR 421). Take West Street South through the 10th, 9th and Saint Clair St. and Indiana Avenue intersections, to Michigan Street and turn Right (one-way West). Follow the  instructions below once you get to campus.

From the North
Take Meridian Street South (SR 31) to downtown Indianapolis. Turn Right onto Michigan Street (one-way West), it will take you to campus! (Pass through Illinois St., Capitol, Senate and Indiana Ave., and West Street intersections.) Follow the instructions below once you get to campus.

From the Northeast/East (Columbus, OH)
Take I-465 South on the east side of town to I-70 West. As you come into town take the I-65 North exit to Chicago, IL (right lane, near Meridian St.), then move into the far Left Lane and take Exit #114 to West Street/Martin Luther King Blvd. Take West Street South through the 10th St., 9th St., St. Clair St. and Indiana Avenue intersections, and turn Right onto Michigan St. (one-way West). Follow the instructions below once you get to campus.

From the Southeast/South (Louisville, KY)
Take I-65 North downtown and take the I-70 West ramp (to St. Louis, MO). Then take Exit #79A, which is West Street/Missouri Street. Travel North through the McCarty, Merrill, South, Maryland, Washington, Ohio, and New York Street intersections to Michigan Street and turn Left (one-way West). Follow the instructions below once you get to campus.

From the Airport or Southwest/West (St. Louis, MO)
Travel East on I-70 East to Exit #79A, which is West Street/Missouri Street. Travel North through McCarty, Merrill, South, Maryland, Washington, Ohio, and New York Street(s) to Michigan Street and turn Left (one-way West). Follow the once you get to campus instructions below.

PARKING

Parking garages are available on campus.

For those who have purchased their week-long parking pass from HILT, you will park in an assigned garage, taking a ticket when you enter. When you check in at registration Monday morning, you will be given a replacement pass that can be used to get into and out of the parking garage without incurring additional fees.

ACCOMMODATIONS

IUPUI will assign HILT participants who elect to stay in dormitory housing. Please be aware that dormitories are no-frills accommodations and require you to walk to the classroom buildings. It is expected that participants electing to stay in dormitory housing recognize this aspect of their stay. Pro-rating of dormitory stays are not possible.

Tower Hall (corner of University Blvd and Michigan). The registration desk is located on the first floor of the building in the central lobby. Attendees may begin checking in after 1pm on June 2nd. Regular summer desk hours for check-in/out are as follows:

  • 8am – 9pm, Monday – Friday
  • 12pm – 6pm, Saturday & Sunday

HILT2019 Check in: You will proceed to the registration desk in Tower Hall. If the desk is not occupied, information on who to call when you arrive will be waiting for you. The RA on duty will meet you at the desk to get you into your dorm room. Please note the building doors lock at 9 pm thus entrance after 9 pm is by calling for access. The phone number will be posted on the front doors at Michigan Avenue and University Avenue. You will be met at those same doors at the corner of Michigan Avenue and University Avenue to be let into the building for registration.

When you check in you will be given access to your assigned rooms. You can view room assignments on the dormitory assignments page.

Each room will have a linen package that includes: 1 blanket, 1 flat sheet, 1 fitted sheet, 1 pillow, 1 pillow case, 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel, 1 washcloth, 1 bathmat. Shower curtain and toilet paper in each bathroom will be provided. The linen packets will be placed in each room prior to Check-In. Conference participants will make their own beds. We encourage you to bring an extra blanket or your own pillow for added comfort and familiarity.

Please note that no toiletries such as soap, shampoo, and conditioner are included. Each room has individually controlled air-conditioning units. There is an ice machine on the 8th floor. When you are on the floor you get off the elevator and make a left. It is the first room on the left. There are wall sconces and lamps included in the room. The nearest parking location to the Tower Hall Residences is the Hine Hall Parking Garage located adjacent to Tower and Hine Halls. As an FYI, Tower and Hine Hall are attached to one another via a short glassed walkway.

Wifi credentials, meal passes, parking passes, and your HILT badge will be provided at the HILT registration desk.

Indianapolis is a major convention, leisure, and sporting destination and has lots of great places to stay. But because downtown stays so busy, it pays to plan ahead!
