Logistics

All DHWI events will take place on the campus of the University of Maryland, College Park except where noted. Classes will take place in Tawes Hall and McKeldin Library with special events taking place in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union. All three building are located 0.5 miles from the Conference Hotel.

The UMD 125 Circulator will transport attendees from the Institute hotel to central campus while the UMD 104 Metro will transport attendees to and from the College Park Metro stop. Schedules will be provided to all participants and events will be scheduled to take advantage of public transportation schedules.

It takes less than 10 minutes to move between Tawes Fine Arts Building, McKeldin Library, Stamp Student Union. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes to get from Tawes or McKeldin to Hornbake Library. The time to the Computer and Space Sciences Building is 12 minutes from Tawes and 15 minutes from the Marriott Inn and Conference Center.

It takes roughly 7 minutes to walk from the Marriott Inn and Conference Center to Tawes Fine Arts Building and 10 minutes to Hornbake Library. Please note that you must enter Tawes from the Campus Drive courtyard (not the grand entrance closest to the Marriott).

It takes approximately 10 minutes to walk from any campus location to the Route 1 corridor.

From BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport

From Dulles International Airport
Using Public Transporation: Washington Flyer Bus to West Falls Church Metro $9 then West Falls Church Metro (Orange line) to College Park Metro (Green line). Switch from Orange Line to Green Line at L’Enfant Plaza $3.90 (less if not during rush hour), Super Shuttle Costs: $39.00 one-way

Visitor parking is primarily available in four parking garages and two surface lots which have been converted to pay by space digital pay stations. Current rates are $3.00 per hour, with a $15.00 per day maximum and a $5 per day maximum on Saturday and Sunday. The Institute hotel provides daily parking for guests at a rate of $9.00 per day.

Weather in January varies from a brisk 25 degrees Fahrenheit to a balmy 50 with limited periods of rain. We encourage participants to wear layers, bring a warm coat, and be prepared for brisk short walks between activities.
