The University of Nebraska–Lincoln, chartered in 1869, is an educational institution of international stature. Nebraska, a member of the Big Ten Conference and the Big Ten Academic Alliance, is classified within the Carnegie “R1: Doctoral Universities – Highest Research Activity” category. Nebraska is also a land-grant university and a member of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU). The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The University of Nebraska was founded on February 15, 1869. The main campus is located in downtown Lincoln.

Since UNL is located in downtown Lincoln, many businesses, restaurants, and shops are within a five to ten minute walk from the HILT locations. If you would like to use a bike, we recommend using BikeLNK’s bikeshare program.

Lincoln’s StarTran Bus Service offers transport from the airport to downtown Lincoln. Fare is $1.75. The bus arrives hourly from 8:15AM-2:15PM, with one night stop at 6:15PM. More information can be found here.

Lincoln Airport has several shuttle and car rental companies: Avis, Budget, Alamo, Enterprise, and Hertz all have rental areas located within Lincoln. Taxi companies such as Yellow Cab and Happy Cab are on hand, as well as rideshare services like Uber and Lyft. More information can be found here.

In addition to StarTran Bus Service and BikeLNK, Lincoln offers a Downtown Trolley service for 25¢, Monday through Friday, from 6:15 AM to 8:30 PM.

StarTran offers a program called Handi-Van: “The Handi-Van Program is a door-to-door transportation service created to help meet the transportation needs of individuals who experience disability and who, because of that disability, are unable to ride the regular fixed-routed city bus. The program requires pre-registration.”

Convenient parking is located adjacent to all residence halls in surface parking lots. A parking permit is required for all vehicles parked in University lots. Surface lot permits (Area R) are complimentary for participants and staff of residential groups during the duration of their stay. Any vehicle, trailer or combination thereof that is larger than one parking stall must have a special large vehicle permit determined by the size of vehicle/trailer. These large vehicle permits will also be complimentary and will require parking in a designated lot on campus.
